A 15-year-old girl in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district had never imagined that deleting someone from the friends’ list on her Facebook account would cost her dearly.

The “jilted friend” came to her residence and poured boiling water on her face “for showing the audacity of deleting him as a friend on a social media site.” The girl, with 20 per cent burn injuries, was rushed to Sadar Hospital.

According to sources, Yudhisthir Yadav, a college student, used to come to the girl’s house to attend tuition conducted by her father. After one year of “friendship”, Yudhisthir sent a friend request to the girl studying in Class VIII on her Facebook account.

‘Objectionable messages’

Without showing any inhibitions, the girl accepted the request. But Yudhisthir started sending her objectionable messages and she requested him to desist from doing so.

When things remained unchanged, the victim deleted Yudhisthir from her friends’ list.
Enraged, the boy entered her residence on Thursday on the pretext of locating his identity card. Once inside, he held the girl and her mother hostage in the kitchen where a pot of water was being boiled. “He took the pot and poured the hot water on my daughter’s face,” said the victim’s mother.

The girl was later rushed to the hospital where she is now stated to be out of danger. An FIR has been lodged, following which the police have been trying to locate the boy who is absconding.

“The boy is originally from Samastipur and is the son of a school principal. We are trying to trace him,” said Muzaffarpur DSP Upendra Kumar.
