Class XI boy killed over FB friendship in Shamli

Millions of youngsters all over the world may be using Facebook largely for friendship but the hugely popular social networking site can lead to bloody enmity and murder, too. The eye-opener has happened in Shamli in west Uttar Pradesh where a group of young students shot dead their senior because of his FB friendship with one of their girl class-mates.

Police sources said Mayank, a class XI student of St RC College, Shamli, had befriended a class VIII girl, and used to be in touch with her on Facebook. When her friend and classmate Nitin got to know about this, he was infuriated and threatened Mayank to stay away from the girl. Nitin also got the password of the girl’s Facebook account and issued threats to Mayank online.

Since Mayank just ignored the threats, an angered Nitin decided to teach him a lesson. On Saturday, when Mayank was returning from his coaching, Nitin and two of his class mates Lucky and Meena accosted him. An ugly brawl broke out on the street. Lucky suddenly whipped out a country-made firearm and shot at Mayank’s head killing him instantly.

Shamli police inspector RS Yadav told reporters that Nitin had been arrested and had confessed to the crime. “Since the entire story was on Facebook, it was not difficult to unravel the case,” he said.
